The Careers Office is located above the senior block in the College library. A range of careers materials are available including university course guides, Defence Force materials, information from private Colleges and organisations and videos related to various careers.
While elements of careers education occur at all year levels, there is an emphasis placed on years 10, 11 & 12.
All Year 10 students have a timetabled Careers class once every 2 weeks with the aim of helping students think about career options and choices and also to prepare them for Senior Studies or transitioning into the workforce or other more suitable educational institutions based on their pathway choices.
As part of the Year 10 Careers program, students visit local universities, create resumes, train in job interview techniques and are shown how to acquire USI’s and Tax File Numbers. Year 10 Students explore potential careers and work through subject selection options for their senior schooling. Carers lessons also provide students with guidance on professional workplace etiquette, workers rights and how to become work ready. Planning time during Careers lessons enables students to plan effectively for their future. They are provided with dedicated time, ample resources as well as expert advice to assist them in this pursuit.
Once in senior school, students in grades 11 and 12 are given advice about and assistance with university applications or post secondary school options including TAFE, apprenticeships and local employment.
Throughout the course of a year, representatives from various universities visit the College to speak to prospective students. A representative from an employment/job network agency also meets with school leavers to help with the transition into the workforce.
Each year the Defence Forces present an information session to interested students.
All students have the opportunity to access work experience upon request.
All students in the College are able to access the Careers Coordinator and careers resources which are located conveniently outside the careers office.
The Careers department has a fully dedicated Careers Website that can be found at mspccareers.com with current information for both students and parents.
The college offers several pathways in senior schooling. These pathways include a full range of academic subjects for students aiming to gain an ATAR but can comprise a range of subjects creating a combination pathway involving school based subjects in conjunction with traineeships, apprenticeships or external VET courses.
The school fully supports the aspirations of all students by tailoring learning pathways to best suit their future career ambitions.
